Random Updates from the Collection

Pinguicula ANPA A
The Pinguicula collection has absolutely rebounded! The Pinguicula ANPA A has not only divided into two separate plants, but is also flowering! Fantastic! I really like the flower, the five purple splotches against the bright white! Amazing!

Pinguicula rotundiflora
My recent acquisition from Cooks, the Pinguicula rotundiflora, is also flowering! (I actually tried to cross these two, since they were both in bloom at the same time. It was my first attempt at pollinating Pinguicula, so I'm not sure that it worked, but I guess we'll see).

Utricularia subulata
I also finally got a second Utricularia subulata flower! Well, a real flower. Usually, it only has cleistogamous flowers, so I haven't gotten to see many little yellow airplanes. I'm glad that I've now been able to capture a photo of the flowers.

Nepenthes talangensis x sibuyanensis
One of the highland Nepenthes that's pitchering really well at the moment is my Nepenthes talangensis x sibuyanensis. The large, tubby pitchers are really fantastic! At the moment, it is my best pitchering Nepenthes, which is kind of funny because both parents are notoriously difficult to get to pitcher, or so I've heard. (My talangensis is small and seems to be pitchering alright at the moment).

N. singalana x (ventricosa x sibuyanesis)
This Nepenthes singalana x (ventricosa x sibuyanensis) is finally pitchering well for me. It's a plant from Hawaii and, like all plants from Hawaii for me, took about six months to really settle in. (Plants not from Hawaii generally take one to three months). I'm really liking the dark purple of the pitchers. Definitely has a lot of singalana in it.

Nepenthes  'Lady Pauline' (N. talangensis x maxima)
My prized Nepenthes 'Lady Pauline' is also putting out some gorgeous pitchers! It's such a great cross. I would highly recommend it! The pitchers are large and tubby, and, when full grown, have peristomes that turn a dark, almost black. I bought this plant from Marius at DroseraGemmae, and it's been doing wonderfully since the day I received it.

Nepenthes campanulata
The Nepenthes campanulata! My prized lowlander! It has been growing incredibly well since the addition of a few chunks of limestone to its media. I know other growers have had trouble with this species, but I really do think limestone is key. (For more on campys check out this post).

Nepenthes eymae x (izumiae x jacquelineae) pitcher just opening
One of the many Nepenthes jacquelinaeae hybrids I own, Nepenthes eymae x (izumiae x jacquelineae) is a fantastic pitcher-er. It has been doing extremely well, and, thanks to my Osmocote feedings (and regular fertilizing), it has been growing at a steady pace.

Nepenthes spectabilis x jacquelineae

A few months ago, it was hard to tell this plant from the one above. Not so much anymore. As these guys have grown, they've really begun to develop in quite different plants. I'll be excited to see how they turn up.

  1. Hey Natch, I think it's Pinguicula rotundiflora, not P. rotundifolia. Beautiful plant though. I love those flowers.

Also your Nepenthes eymae x (izumiae x jacquelineae) is really lovely.

  4. Thanks! They're really doing well now that I've figured out some of the tricks of my apartment, and temperatures have cooled down significantly.
