A couple days ago, AL.com, a major website for Alabama news,
profiled the astounding biodiversity of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, which comprises much of southern Alabama. Given the lack of conservation in the region, it's refreshing to see a major news organization in Alabama take a look at the incredible importance of the plants and animals in southern Alabama.
Perhaps what was most refreshing about the article was the lengthy discussion of carnivorous plants (and the accompanying video, embedded above). Although I'm not convinced that Sarracenia rosea is actually a new species, it was certainly interesting to see it being identified as such in order to promote conservation of the ecologically diverse community of southern Alabama, which is a goal we can all get behind.
