Highland/Intermediate Updates

Wow! What a difference a month of ideal temps and humidity can make! As I've mentioned a few times, my highlanders really took a beating over the summer. My last apartment didn't have AC (most in New England don't), and the temperatures were getting way too warm for the highland plants. Now, they're back on track!

Some, like this awesome Nepenthes dubia x jamban, I only recently obtained. So, those guys didn't suffer at all. While others, like all of my wonderful aristolochioides hybrids suffered greatly. Mostly, I'm glad that it's fall again, so my electric bill is a little lower, and my plants much happier.

I have to say, after a couple months of virtually no new pitchers on the highlanders, it's fantastic to seem them beginning to look happy again. And, what's more amazing, is how quickly they've recovered. Some plants have rather large basals sprouting as a consequence of an injured growing point.

This poor guy suffered not only the hot temperatures but a thrip invasion brought on by inadequate isolation of new plants from a certain nursery. . . I'm very glad those plants are all back on track as well. It's unfortunate that I did have a few casualties due to the summer/pests/etc., but most plants are on the way back to health.

What's more, I'm excited for the basal offshoots from some plants. In a year or so, they might be big enough to make cuttings, filling the store with even more exciting plants.
