Nepenthes robcantleyi x hamata

Nepenthes robcantleyi x hamata
Nepenthes robcantleyi x hamata, a seed-grown hybrid from Borneo Exotics, has become the favorite hybrid among collectors in recent months. When it was released, you could snag this beauty for as low as $30. Now, you're lucky to get it for $130!

I think it's pretty easy to see why this hybrid has become so popular. Many plants display very strong N. hamata traits. That isn't too surprising. Numerous hybrids with N. robcantleyi have shown that N. robcantleyi does not have much influence on its offspring. Pairing it with a star like N. hamata was a good choice.

I've bought my plant from California Carnivores and have been quite pleased with it so far. The newest, largest pitcher was grown under my care. The other two inflated before it came into my care (one did open in my care, however). I haven't seen it show any kind of transport shock and delayed growth, which is fairly unusual for Nepenthes.

Although still young, the pitcher peristomes of my plant are displaying a toothiness that is remarkably similar to that displayed by hamatas of the same size. I'm hopeful that this trend continues. If so, I predict that this will be a very popular hybrid indeed.
