On Friday, I was given the spectacular opportunity to give a presentation on carnivorous plants to three classes of fourth graders. Given that it was (almost) Halloween, I was sure to include some photos of the "Dracula Pitcher Plant" (Nepenthes bicalcarata) and bring along some of my plants which contained the corpses of their victims (bug exoskeletons). It was a lot of fun and I hope to do it again sometime.
I would definitely encourage all of my readers (even those new to the hobby) to consider giving talks about carnivorous plants at schools and clubs. It's a great way to teach people about the hobby and, hopefully, encourage them to be responsible stewards of the environment, especially carnivorous plant environments.
