| Sarracenia x catesbaei |
On January 1, 2015, I
announced the launch of a
pre-order on the sales site. These plants are coming from a large Sarracenia grower, and I am the exclusive U.S. retailer. Pre-orders are only available until February 25, 2015, and I can't guarantee having any extras on hand once the shipment comes in. This is a great chance to get some fantastic plants!
 |
| Sarracenia 'Mardi Gras' |
There are some plants here that I'm excited to
purchase myself, including this Sarracenia 'Mardi Gras'. These clones of Sarracenia 'Mardi Gras', like the other Mellichamp cultivars in this collection, come from the original plant created by Larry Mellichamp, and are not remade creations.
 |
| Sarracenia 'June Bug' |
Larry Mellichamp's creations, such as Sarracenia 'June Bug', are some of the most unique and most sought after in the Sarracenia world. His collection of "Bug" cultivars are designed to be easy to grow with long-lasting and colorful pitchers. This is one of the few times, you can
purchase a significant portion of the whole "Bug" collection.
 |
| Sarracenia 'Doodlebug' |
Besides 'June Bug', I also have 'Lady Bug', 'Love Bug', and 'Doodlebug' available. These all have hooded-to-slightly hooded pitchers which are vibrant showpieces for any collection.
 |
| Sarracenia 'Lady Bug' |
'Lady Bug' is one that really caught my eye. It's an incredibly colorful plant with striking hooded pitchers. I'm very excited to have the opportunity to add it to my collection.
 |
| Sarracenia x farnhamii |
Many of these plants have been hand-selected from seed to have specific colorations, such as this Sarracenia x farnhamii. Plants that looked too much like either parent (Sarracenia leucophylla and Sarracenia rubra) were picked out and only the intermediate, red lidded, white fenestrationed, plants remained to be
sold.
 |
| Sarracenia x mitchelliana |
Even better is the fact that this is a chance to get a few different anthocyanin-free plants. These all-green plants are very rare in nature, and it's even rarer to find all-green hybrids. Up for
sale are anthocyanin-free Sarracenia x mitchelliana and Sarracenia leucophylla x rubra ssp. jonesii, both of which are fantastic plants that make great show-pieces for any collection.
 |
| Sarracenia psittacina |
This is also your chance to
get some large, healthy Sarracenia species, such as these Sarracenia psittacina. Those low-growing Sarracenia are uniquely shaped and a fantastic contrast to more upright species like Sarracenia flava.
 |
| Sarracenia flava 'Piggly Wiggly' |
Speaking of Sarracenia flava, this is one of the few times you can
purchase plants grown from seed collected at the famed 'Piggly Wiggly' site. This site was one of the best stands of Sarracenia flava every discovered. Sadly, it was ditched and drained some years ago to construct a Piggly Wiggly (hence the name). Fortunately, a massive carnivorous plant rescue operation occurred, which allowed many of these plants to be saved prior to the bulldozers destroying them. Most of the original plants and their offspring now reside in botanical gardens and in rescue collection, so the opportunity to obtain one is rare.
 |
| Sarracenia x swaniana |
This is also a prime opportunity to get some rare natural hybrids, like Sarracenia x swaniana. The area in which Sarracenia minor and Sarracenia purpurea overlap is tiny, so finding Sarracenia x swaniana in the wild is rare. It is even less common in collections. This is one of your few chances to
purchase it.
 |
| Sarracenia 'White Ruffles' |
A few unique Sarracenia cultivars, such as Sarracenia 'White Ruffles', are also
available. 'White Ruffles' produces a heavy white, waxy residue on the pitcher lips. It's a plant that I'm happy to have the opportunity to add to my own collection as well.
 |
| Sarracenia x wrigleyana |
Lastly, I have a few perennial favorites available for
pre-order, such as Sarracenia x wrigleyana. The most famous Sarracenia wrigleyana is 'Scarlet Belle'. Available for pre-order are plants that look very similar to 'Scarlet Belle' and were bred to have long lasting, tough pitchers, but which do not come from the original 'Scarlet Belle' source. It's a great plant! (But, if you want an original 'Scarlet Belle', I also have those
available). And, feel free to look through the
Pre-Order album on Facebook for more information on all these plants, and
email me with any questions.
