Nepenthes Rokko

Nepenthes Rokko
Gordon Cheer's Book
One of the neat things about looking through old carnivorous plant books is that you get to learn what was popular in collections at the time the book was written. Recently, I obtained Gordon Cheer's Carnivorous Plants from 1983. On the inside cover is the photo above, a photo of Nepenthes Rokko. Since I obtained a bunch of cuttings from the North Carolina State University's Nepenthes Rokko thanks to Mason's generous giveaway, I decided to dig through my photos to see how closely the two plants matched . . .

Turns out that they're probably the same plant! That's kinda cool to find out. I'm growing a plant that was popular back in the 1980s! The plant is older than I am! Neat!

Stay tuned for a review of Cheer's book!

P.S. I've recently learned that, when Rokko was made, true Nepenthes thorelli was not in cultivation. the parentage is probably N. bokorensis x maxima. (Added. 1/14/15)
