Black Friday Haul

Nepenthes maxima 'Large' x veitchii 'Bario'
I didn't plan on buying anything on Black Friday. Then, I started to getting emails from nurseries around the United States . . . Frankly, I was most excited about Cook's. Dean didn't include any details, except that he'd be discounting a few plants and listing a few new ones. I was very excited to get this Nepenthes x tiveyi made with a cross between Nepenthes maxima 'Large' and Nepenthes veitchii 'Bario'.

Nepenthes petiolata x veitchii 'Bario'
I also picked up this Nepenthes petiolata x veitchii 'Bario' from Cook's. I've always been enamored of the stripped peristome of Nepenthes veitchii 'Bario', and I love it's tubby pitchers. I'm not entirely sure what to expect from these two crosses when they grow up, but I expect them to be fantastic!

Pinguicula rotundifolia
I also picked up this Pinguicula rotundifolia, which is a nice, mature size. I got quite the deal on it, and I'm thrilled to be able to add it to my Ping collection. (In fact, my Ping collection has been doing so well recently that, despite my recent update, I'll have to post another one soon).

Nepenthes spathulata x (talangensis x spectabilis)
I also decided to buy this Nepenthes spathulata x (talangensis x spectabilis) from Native Exotics. I'd been eyeing this cross for a little while, as I think all three parents usually make fantastic crosses, and Ryan seemed to have a seed grown specimen already showing fantastic coloring. Feel free to share your plant hauls on Black Friday in the comments below or via email.

  1. Nice haul! Anything with veitchii is bound to look good, (in my opinion at least.) I'm still waiting on mine, purchased slightly after black friday. I got all those emails too and ended up emailing Native Exotics. I was disappointed that not a single retailer that had specials had any lowland Nepenethes. Not entirely surprising with the recent lack of sources, but I would've spent too much money somewhere, had there been an option. Hope Native Exotics are as good as people have been making them out to be, maybe I'll take some photos if they look good enough out of the box.

  2. Thanks Melody! Yeah, I wish lowlanders would come back into fashion. Oh well....
I've had good experiences with Ryan. His plants don't seem to have any really shock upon shipment (then again, I live close by and have similar conditions).
