2014 NECPS Fall Show

Nepenthes tenuis
The 2014 New England Carnivorous Plant Show was amazing! I had a fantastic time! There were really so many cool moments, it's hard to pick one that's my favorite. It was awesome to meet people I communicate with online all the time, sell my book to some well known carnivorous plant enthusiasts, get recognized for this blog, see some awesome plants (like that Nepenthes tenuis above), and be able to help educate the public about carnivorous plants.

Sarracenia x moorei
First up, the plants! Wow! We had cooler stuff than last year (in my opinion), and I discovered what that mystery Nep was from last year that I really wanted a cutting from - Nepenthes copelandii, allegedly. But, really, the plants were fantastic! I was busy posting pictures on instagram in those few minutes of free time.

Nepenthes ventricosa x inermis
Oh, and the really cool part was seeing plants like this fantastic Nepenthes ventricosa x inermis featured in the show and with cutting for sale! (Even Jeremiah Harris wanted a cutting of this guy!). It was amazing!

Cephalotus follicularis
I think we were all in agreement, however, that probably the most fantastic set of plants present was a pair of Cephalotus that each had pitchers that were 3"- 4". The photo above doesn't do them justice. The entirety of both my Cephs could fit in one of the pitchers above. It was insane! I don't think any of us had ever seen Cephs with pitchers that large.

Drosera adelae
There were plenty of spectacular presentations, too. Matt Kaelin had some stunning displays, like the Drosera adelae above. It was no surprise that he's an artist. And if that D. adelae wasn't enough to convince you, just check out this Pinguicula 'Fraiser's Beauty' below.

I honestly think the coolest part of the show was having people come up to me and tell me how much they liked reading this blog. It's one thing to see the numbers on Google Analytics, a whole other thing to have people actually recognize you for something. It was pretty awesome!

Nepenthes ampullaria
It was also really cool to meet so many people that I'd both heard so much about, and communicated with via email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, the forums, and other online media about carnivorous plants. It was pretty amazing to watch some truly phenomenal growers comment on the plants at the show and give some tips about best practices.

As with last year, there was a nice crop of gigantic Venus Flytraps. It was amazing to see them, although I kind of liked last year's barrel display better.
