Nepenthes, Cephs, Dews, and Pings

Nepenthes jamban
Despite my recent focus on my outdoor collection, my indoor collection hasn't been abandoned. In fact, my Nepenthes jamban has begun to put out intermediate pitchers, despite not being very tall  and having suffered some stress from the summer heat. Even though the pitchers are quite small, I'm thrilled!

Nepenthes jamban
(Intermediate pitcher in focus, lower (red) pitcher out of focus)
One of the things I have noticed about my highland plants, which have suffered tremendously this summer, is that the seed grown plants are "stronger" than the tissue cultured ones. By "stronger" I mean more okay with conditions that have caused tissue cultured plants to fade. For instance, the jamban, despite not putting out many pitchers, has continued to grow well, while the Nepenthes dubia, which grows sympatrically with jamban in the wild, has died back to a point where I was concerned for its continued survival.

Cephalotus follicularis
One of the plants that has been doing quite well is my Cephalotus. Well, both of them, actually, but the newest one, which I obtained at the NECPS pre-show in New Hampshire, has just put out this large pitcher, which is the largest that I've had grow on this species.I'm pleased that, after doing some research, I seem to have figured out a formula for keeping my Cephs alive.

Drosera aliciae
Recently, I've been upping the amount of light my indoor plants have been getting. This has caused some plants, like this D. aliciae, to turn a dramatic red, and also reduced the size of the leaves that the plants are putting out. I think the plants appreciate the greater light (and they certainly look better).

Pinguicula 'Aphrodite'
Pinguicula 'Aphrodite' is one of the few Pings that just won't stop flowering. It's amazing! I do like its flowers, but, frequently, they hit the lights before opening and burn off. I'm glad I got to see this one. (As far as I know, P. 'Aphrodite' produces sterile flowers. Or, at least, I haven't been able to get any crosses to take).

Pinguicula False 'John Rizzi'
This False 'John Rizzi' is one of the handful of Pings that I own. (I'd like to acquire more). Now that it's been getting significant light, it is also blushing with a brilliant purple.
