| Some nice Sarracenia for Sale |
Back at the end of June, Black Jungle Terrarium Supply had it's annual spring sale. I went
last year, and bought
some plants. Naturally, I had to visit again this year and take some photos of their awesome, not-for-sale collection (as well as some of their for sale collection).
 |
| Sarracenia |
I was impressed with the wide variety of Sarracenia Black Jungle had on display. Unfortunately, only about half were for sale (those in smaller pots), so there were a lot of cool hybrids that were just unavailable.
 |
| Sarracenia minor |
I was drawn to their Sarracenia minors and Sarracenia minor hybrids (I really wanted a Sarracenia x excellens (Sarracenia minor x Sarracenia leucophylla), but the one I found was not for sale. Thankfully, I found someone on eBay with remarkably competitive prices.
 |
| Sarracenia hybrid |
I'm not sure what were the parents of this hybrid, but it wasn't for sale, unfortunately. It definitely has some Sarracenia leucophylla in it, along with something red. Definitely a neat plant. (Although, honestly, what made the trip more exciting was that it was a whole USDA zone larger than mine, meaning their plants had put on some serious growth, whereas mine were still beginning to open their first pitchers of the season.
 |
| Sarracenia Benches |
Above, you can see the whole set of benches that Black Jungle has for Sarracenia. Quite impressive! I certainly wish that I had a yard, and that it was that full of plants!
 |
| Nepenthes coccinea |
One of the best parts of visiting a nursery's packed greenhouse is being able to see what's in the owner's private collection, like this Nepenthes coccinea. Black Jungle has a number of very large Nepenthes stashed in the rafters, struggling for more light, and putting out some fantastic pitchers!
 |
| Nepenthes truncata |
Speaking of large plants, this Nepenthes truncata was gigantic! I couldn't even see the whole thing! The leaves were nearly as long as my arm! And the pitchers! They were as big as footballs! It was pretty incredible to see. (Naturally, the pictures of the pitchers didn't come out as well).
 |
| Nepenthes + Flower |
I took this photograph because it showed how crowded the greenhouse is at Black Jungle. Pitchering plants and flower spikes abound. It's quite a sight!
