New Carnivorous Plants: Nepenthes!

As many of you now probably know, I'm a big fan of Nepenthes. So, I was excited on Monday to get this guy from PetFlyTrap. Although it currently lacks pitchers, it's a "medium" sized Nepenthes ventricosa x spectabilis 'GIANT.' Of course, Paul Barden has photos of the plant when it's grown up (or, rather, the same cross). It looks like it'll be rather spectacular.

In the background, you can see my 55-gallon tank, which is now bursting with plants. Featured in this photo is Nepenthes kongkandana (the red pitchers). It's a fantastic grower and a lowland plant that I would highly recommend. Also featured is my newly acquired, but long sought Nepenthes bicalcarata x ampullaria. I don't know much about the lineage (the grower I received it from had it sold to him as a pure N. bical.), but my guess is that it's a cross between a green(ish) bical and speckled amp. My favorite feature of this particular clone is that it has minute fangs, still. Over the next few months, I hope it acclimates to my conditions and puts out some new growth.

I also received a bunch of plants from a grower out in Oregon, including some fantastic looking, little Nepenthes sumatrana seedlings (in the box), an unrooted Nepenthes sibuyensis x (spectabilis X aristolochioides) cutting (in the plastic baggie), and a little Cephalotus sprouting from a leaf (in the small plastic baggie on the right). I'm very excited to see these guys grow under my care.

Additionally, I decided to add my grow list (and wishlist) as a page on the blog, instead of keeping it at Terraforums. Mostly, I made this change because someone suggested I self host it as a way to make sure that I can keep it updated.
