"Spring" is Here!
"Spring" is here! It last snowed...last week. Ugh. Sometimes living above the 44th parallel is awful. Winter seems eternal. Still, there are finally some indicators of spring, like the lone flower in the patch of weathered pitchers.

More flower stalks
Other plants are getting flower stalks, too. Unfortunately, my earlier flowers didn't end up producing seed thanks to our volatile weather which keeps swinging from below freezing to around 70. So, I've been moving plants inside from outside and vice versa nearly every day. It's quite the workout.

One of the failed seed pods
Unfortunately, not all is moderate news. I did repot most of my Sarrs and VFTs a few weeks ago. I did end up losing a number of VFTs, and a few Sarrs. I think it won't be until mid-summer that I'll know for sure what really made it. Still, a healthy crop seems to have made it.

More spent flowers
Still, I'm happy to see some flowers this year. I didn't have any last year (I cut the few off that started to spring up...I didn't think my plants were strong enough).
|
Fading flower
This year, in contrast, I doubt that I'll have many VFT flowers. Those really suffered through the winter. Many of the ones that didn't eat as well last summer do not seem to have made it.

Sarracenia leucophylla 'Tarnok' flower
I am happy that I was able to definitively identify another unknown plant, however. Apparently, I have a Sarracenia leucophylla 'Tarnok' in my collection.
