Nepenthes kongkandana
Utricularia calycifida 'Asenath Waite' |
Long time readers of this blog will know that this N. kongkandana was
one of the first three Nepenthes I bought when I restarted growing carnivorous plants. And I was fortuitous to buy it before it was
formally described. It's an incredibly easy lowlanders that really thrives in high humidity.

I've had a pitcher on every leaf of this plant, and, frankly, I think it's time to give it a bigger pot. I just need to make more room in my lowland area. Plans about how to do that are already in the works. For now, however, I'll just enjoy its nice red pitchers.

I do wish that this plant would push out some more basals. It has such nice pitchers. I would be very happy if I could get it to clump for me, like in the wild.

The other plant that I have to share is this Nepenthes x hookeriana. It's an amazing plant that is about two years old. I bought it as a seed-grown N. rafflesiana. Happily, it is not. It is much more impressive.

Already, the pitchers are about as big as my fist. It's just incredible! I really love its pitchers.

I would highly recommend this cross to anyone considering lowland Nepenthes.
Hi Natch, try removing the two wooden stakes that are holding your kongkandana stems upright. If the growing points hang down from the pot and are lower than the point where the stem emerges from the media it won't take too long for basals to start forming. Good luck!
