Utricularia delphinioides

In the midst of a new project, I ran across a few photos of Utricularia delphinoides and had to share! Francois has actually seen this marvelous plant in Indochina. (And the photo below is his) -

Utricularia delphinioides
I'm somewhat surprised that, for such a widespread and not-rare species that it hasn't made its way into cultivation (or at least widespread cultivation) yet. I would definitely love to try this species out. It's requirements seem fairly easy - it grows near some lowland Nepenthes in very sandy soil that stays wet (at least long enough for the plant to flower). I would imagine that it would do well alongside old classics like Utricularia dichotoma.

  1. Im thinking it might be quite difficult in cultivation. Reason being it's so common in places like Thailand where they grow everything under the sun, yet I've never seen it for sale, ever anywhere. Its one of those colours that are so desirable too and in its grassy form I would love these in my garden. Sigh. They do look unbelievable when all flowering.

    1. That was my guess. I found one person in Japan who grows it (and quite well, I might add). I don't believe anyone else grows it, which is a shame.
